Wonder

One of my favorite parts of my job is sitting back and watching children explore, learn and grow.

It truly is a privilege to watch young children as they develop new skills and become aware of the world around them.
One of my favorite moments is when you can observe the growing sense of wonder in a child.

On this day I loved to watch as Kai discovered the buckets of water in the sand box. He stood in the sand adding one handful and then one scoopful of sand at a time.

It was as if he was amazed at how when he put sand into the bucket of water, the sand just disappeared. You could almost hear the gears in his little head clicking as he wondered " where did the sand go?"

I love my job!

Blueberry Buddies

Beautiful blueberries! It seems like forever ago that we went to the blueberry field, so I thought I had better get the photos of our adventure out there for you guys to see!

Evelyn was in heaven with berry picking until she noticed the slugs in the grass. Bugs are one of her favorite things. After this discovery the berries didn't really seem all that important!

Phoenix ,by far, wins hand down, as the best blueberry picking helper. Not only did he fill his basket.... and then re-fill his basket after someone dumped it.... and then refill his basket AGAIN after he dumped it, but he also picked some for Kai.

Nathan on the other hand was so busy comparing his "big one" to all the other blueberries that he didn't end up picking many.

Amelia did put a few in her basket..... but at least 10 times that amount into her mouth.

Indirah was also a great picker. unfortunately she was also a dumper with her basket as well.

So she as well picked the same berries at least 3 times!

Kai loved being set free on the blueberry bushes...

Unfortunately he doesn't quite get what the color blue is yet....

but I don't think he really cares.

Everyone had a great time filling their tummies as well as their baskets with those wonderful blueberries!

Funny girls

OK... I just want to say that Amelia comes up with the funniest things....

Today during nap time while I was doing some paperwork at my desk the girls were watching a movie and chatting. I wasn't really listening to what they were talking about until the last sentence caught my attention;

Amelia: "just try it, this way we will not have to smell stinky diapers"

It was at this point that I turned my head to see them both sitting in front of the TV watching Happy Feet like this;

Ya gotta love them!

summer plums

After patiently watching the plums grow all summer we finally decided that it was time to pick!

This past week Phoenix showed me that one morning the local squirrels had decided that the plums were ready.
So we decided to beat them to it!

There is no way to describe the sweet flavor of a freshly picked plum that is still warm from the sunshine.

The squirrels did get their hands on about 20 or so plums that they took a bite of and then dropped to the ground, but this year.....

the rest are OURS!

I can hardly wait to taste the jam!

Summer Strawberries

Ahhhhh.... the taste of the seasons first fresh picked strawberries! It's a flavour that's hard to describe, other than to say it tastes of the promise of warm summer days to come. This week we packed up some snack and headed out to the strawberry field for an adventure. It was funny to watch the kids with there different picking techniques;
Evelyn basically picked everything...... one for her basket, ten for her tummy

Nathan on the other hand decided that today.... he no longer liked strawberries?

(the aftermath of a strawberry free for all)

Amelia very quickly filled her basket, but then sat and ate them all only to have to fill be basket back up!

And Indirah...... she was the most serious picker of the group. She was the last to fill her basket because she closely inspected each and every berry before either eating it or putting it in her basket.

Phoenix was a man on a mission... to pick ONLY the "beauties"

And Chloe.... as a berry supervisor so I can take photos and pick a bucket full of berries ROCKED! Thank you for still wanting to come on adventures with us. We love you!
