Wow... what a big girl!

Happy Birthday you big two year old!
My favorite part about celebrating Rosie's birthday was the fact that she 'got it'. When the other kids said to her that we are going to have your birthday cupcakes soon she would squeal with excitement. When I brought out her hat from my office she ran to the snack table in anticipation of gettin the party started! She actually WANTED to wear her party hat, eat her fruit first and blow out those candles. She even knew what to do when I passed her the present! Rosie... you are turning into such a big girl. Happy birthday my friend!

Fishy Fun

Last week the kids and I went for a rainy day hike down to schoolhouse creek to watch the salmon returning to spawn. I wasn't sure if they would be as fascinated with it as I was, but they were! Kai and Rosie had walked most of the way there, so they were content to stay sitting in the wagon whacking each other with the humongous leaves that we had collected along the way. The size of some of the salmon are amazing and watching then attempt the little ledge that they need to get up and over to make there way farther upstream is a little heartbreaking. Just knowing how hard it has already been to make their way up the fish ladder to where they are now... in FRESH WATER! I can only only imagine how hard their struggle has been to make it to this point. You really just want to reach out and help give then a boost up and over. But as nature will have it... we had to leave.... as someone needed to pee.

Can you believe that THIS is fall?
Where are the changing leaves? The gloves and extra layers? The never ending wet days? I'm not complaining.... but singing the "autumn leaves are falling down" song at circle time doesn't quite match the kind of morning we had! I LOVE the beach! The kids had a great time throwing rocks into the water, listening to the different sounds they make depending on the size. I love my job!

Pump it up!

Nathan and Drew shoved balls up their sleeves and proceeded to show off their impressive muscles.
I was impressed.... How about you?

Apple time

I think going to the apple farm is one of my most favorite field trips. Not only is it a reminder that fall is fast approaching, but it always has that fresh crispness to the air, the smell of ripe fruit ( and of course the smell from the animals in the barn), and a feeling of change. I am so thankful to have my helper Nickolas who came with us this year. Watching him pull the wagon, pick the "up high" apples, and playing "monster" with the kids brings back so many memories of not only when he was the little kid on the field trip, but also of all the other children who have shared in the experience of getting to go pick your own apples and corn with me.
